Sting under a curtain of rain...

Amid rain and cheers, Sting's "Broken Music Tour" passed through Lyon last night as part of the Nuits de Fourvière.

"We missed the game, and it's raining too." Sting's fans weren't exactly rewarded. The evening was spoiled by the weather: the people of Lyon welcomed the British musician under a continuous shower of rain.

The musicians had barely taken the stage when the arpeggios of "Message in a Bottle" began, and the music began to accelerate. A trio of outstanding musicians surrounded the Newcastle bassist. Two guitarists as brilliant as they were economical, and a drummer as powerful as he was demonstrative. A blend of genres that made the Police so successful, and a musical formula that Sting returned to for this "Broken Music Tour."

The message sent was a muscular version of "Synchronicity" that followed. The guitars go wild, and Sting pushes his voice under the black sky of Fourvière. The high-pitched organ has lost none of its splendour and responds to the magnificent chords of 'Walking on the Moon', which finds its place in ancient theatre. A few songs later, Sting pays homage to his masters, with a wise and diligent version of 'A Day In The Life', linked to 'If You Love Somebody'. Later will come 'Roxanne', 'Next to You' or 'Every Breath You Take'. Under the rain and cheers.
